Finasteride

Finasteride is an FDA-approved, prescription medication used to treat male pattern hair loss. Finasteride is proven to slow hair loss and increase hair density, but it must be taken long-term to maintain its effects. 

How it works

This treatment works by blocking the enzyme 5-alpha-reductase, which prevents the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT), the hormone responsible for hair follicle shrinking and hair loss.

Side effects can include: 

• Decreased libido (sex drive)

• Decreased ejaculate volume

• Breast tenderness
